It starts with a sewing class…

For her birthday the oldest pumpkin wanted to take a sewing machine class. So we signed her up for JoAnn’s 101 kids class where she would get to make her very own pillowcase. Due to her thespian commitments she had to wait nearly two whole months for this class.

To say she was so excited was an understatement.

Thanks to Mama making sure she had extra fabric she was able to make two pillowcases, one of which she gifted to her Daddy. I made the mistake of pointing out that the colors she chose would mean new sheets were needed for her bed and that red and black didn’t go so well with pale purple walls. To which I got a very sheepish smile and request to paint her room. Set myself up for that one! ;)

So her first sewing class went fabulous and I think she may be hooked. Its nice to know that the kids are not total copies of their Daddy in hobbies! :D

Off to see the Wizard…

Tonight I am catching up on a few things and was reminded that I have been remiss in my proud Mama duties. My oldest Katy was in her school’s recent production of the Wizard of Oz. As a lowly 4th grader she and her friends were the bright eyed munchkins, jitterbugs and flying monkeys. It was a ton of fun and the kids did a great job!

Eggless Chocolate Baked Doughnuts with Chocolate Glaze

This year Anna chose doughnuts for her special birthday snack at school. They turned out great!

Eggless Baked Chocolate Doughnuts with Chocolate Glaze

(If you read my earlier blog post about my pumpkin doughnuts you will see I learned my lesson and put parchment paper down before glazing and sprinkles. Clean up was certainly faster this time.)

Eggless Chocolate Baked Doughnuts with Chocolate Glaze

  • 3 cups flour
  • 1 1/2 cup cocoa powder
  • 1 1/2 cup sugar
  • 4 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon fine grain sea salt
  • 1 1/2 cup milk, at room temperature
  • 2 Tbsp White Vinegar
  • 4 Tbsp Pumpkin Puree (this is approximate, add more or less if you feel it needs it)
  • 4 tablespoons butter, melted
  • 2 teaspoon vanilla

Preheat the oven to 325 degrees. Lightly coat the donut pan with non stick spray. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and place a wire rack over the parchment. Set aside.

In a large bowl, sift together the flour, cocoa powder, sugar, and baking soda. Stir in the salt. Add the milk with vinegar and stir to combine, then add the butter. Add the pumpkin puree and vanilla. Stir, just until the mixture is combined.

Fill each donut mold about 2/3 full. Bake for about 8 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Let the donuts cool in the pan for 5 minutes, then turn out onto the wire rack.

Chocolate Glaze:

  • 4 1/2 T unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 3 T milk
  • 1 1/2 cup powdered sugar

Mix in a bowl with a whisk til smooth. Add more confectioner’s sugar or milk til you have the consistency you want. Use right away with warm doughnuts if possible and let sit for about 30 minutes to set.

Happy Baking!

Belated birthday wishes…

As the end of January 2012 approaches I have been remiss in wishing my two oldest pumpkins a Happy Birthday. I officially have a child in the double digits. TEN years, Katy is ten. How did that happen and Anna is eight. Which means she’ll be ten sooner then I’d like.

Hard to believe they’ve gone from this:

Katy 3wks

Anna 2wks

To:

Katy my Zombie, Tara my Tinkerbelle and Anna my Frost Fairy.

Happy Belated Birthday Pumpkins! We love you!

Farmer’s Market Ornament of the Month for January…

Farmer’s Market January 2012 Ornament of the Month:

Cabbage

To kick off the New Year is the newest member of my Farmer’s Market Collection of Ornaments. A sweet head of cabbage that would look equally cute propped up in your kitchen or on your tree.

Rearranging the virtual walls a bit…

If you are a regular visitor of my blog/store here you are probably noticing a wee bit of a change. I’m in the process of merging my old blueladystudios family blog with my business page here at pumpkintreelane. If you are a follower of my blueladystudios blog I will be setting up an archive page for some of older posts that I don’t want t lose. I also have a new page that will be dedicated to recipes, particularly the ones I’ve adapted for my youngest pumpkin who has a host of food allergies.  I’m hoping that in not trying to maintain two blogs that I will be better about updating.

For now you can find my work for sale at my Etsy shop.

Happy New Year!

Summer is ending…

8/30/11

Here at Pumpkin Tree Lane ‘Headquarters’, Summer is coming to an end. My girls have headed back to school and mornings are giving a hint of Fall weather to come.

For Pumpkin Tree Lane that means a bunch of new Halloween items will be added in the coming days and weeks. I love Halloween, the costumes, the candy!

Also new to the shop are two new sections, Dollhouse Miniatures and Paper Embellishments. When I have time I have found I love working with miniatures, not much in there right now but hope to add to it later in the year. Paper Embellishments will features tags and other scrapbook items. They will primarily feature paper and stamps that I have designed.

So please have a look around and check back often in the next few weeks as I’ll be adding lots of new items.
