Spring is here…

Finally, Spring appears to finally be moving in, I can only hope it sticks around for a couple weeks before Summer pushes it out.

With Spring comes new projects around the house. The biggest being we are tackling a garden. The kids are super excited and we’ve spent the last couple days setting up some raised beds and getting our strawberry and blueberry plants transplanted.

April02Garden April02GardenGirlsSpinach, peas, brussel sprouts and a couple other seedlings will be making their way into the newly built beds later this week. We’ll be adding a couple more beds this weekend hopefully so we’ll have room for everything plus the beans, cucumbers and squash that will go in early May!

Fingers crossed that between me and the girls one of us has a green thumb!

What I did this summer, aka the joy of home ownership…

We own a small three bedroom in an older neighborhood, forty years old, needs some TLC for which we have a list of projects we are slowly chipping away at.

Life, apparently does not care for our list.

So after last summer and the season of the car repair, this summers theme was The Money Pit. We started off the summer a week into June with our outer storm door breaking and somehow taking the whole frame with it. Good news though, the frame was in pretty good condition for a forty year old house!

We headed into July and a series of bad storms that we were very grateful to come out of without any damage. Or so we thought…

Why yes, that is a branch speared into the side of the house. So while still grateful to not have down trees or anything worse, we did get to spend a week or so attempting to get a small hole in the side of our house fixed.

With all that behind us we turned to August and focused on getting the house ready for our homeschool adventures (more on that at a later date), when the youngest comes out of the downstairs bathroom to say something along the lines of, “There is a leak, just a small leak though so its ok.”

Which led to a day of plumbers who left us with new pipes and this present.

Ah the joy of home ownership!

Meet Lexi…

If you came to this blog through my old blueladystudios account you know that this past November our family said goodbye to our friend and companion Zoe. At the time we figured it would be a long time before we’d add another four legged member to our family.

Fate tends to have other plans though and much like our adoption of Zoe we found ourselves just a couple weeks into grieving looking at a new posting for a six month old Boxer/Shepherd mix(or 9mths if you talk to our Vet) that had just finished quarantine and was up for adoption at the local shelter. How many Boxer mixes show up we told ourselves and we knew we had to meet her.

We knew she was ours when we saw her. She was skittish though, overly excitable and a big ball of anxiety with a whole host of issues we’ve worked through over the last few months.

Its much like having a toddler in the house once again, a very smart toddler. :D

So here she is, our 60lb lap dog, champion bug hunter, ball chasing, bed hog!

It starts with a sewing class…

For her birthday the oldest pumpkin wanted to take a sewing machine class. So we signed her up for JoAnn’s 101 kids class where she would get to make her very own pillowcase. Due to her thespian commitments she had to wait nearly two whole months for this class.

To say she was so excited was an understatement.

Thanks to Mama making sure she had extra fabric she was able to make two pillowcases, one of which she gifted to her Daddy. I made the mistake of pointing out that the colors she chose would mean new sheets were needed for her bed and that red and black didn’t go so well with pale purple walls. To which I got a very sheepish smile and request to paint her room. Set myself up for that one! ;)

So her first sewing class went fabulous and I think she may be hooked. Its nice to know that the kids are not total copies of their Daddy in hobbies! :D

Off to see the Wizard…

Tonight I am catching up on a few things and was reminded that I have been remiss in my proud Mama duties. My oldest Katy was in her school’s recent production of the Wizard of Oz. As a lowly 4th grader she and her friends were the bright eyed munchkins, jitterbugs and flying monkeys. It was a ton of fun and the kids did a great job!
